Weston-Super-Mare Petanque Adult-Junior Tournament Results

Fourteen teams gathered at Weston-Super-Mare Petanque Club to compete in the Weston-Super-Mare Petanque Adult-Junior Tournament. The event featured a morning session where teams were divided into two leagues of four and one league of six. From these groups, the top two teams from the smaller leagues and the top four from the larger league advanced to the main competition.

The tournament showcased not only intense competition but also remarkable sportsmanship and collaboration. The quality of play was outstanding, with some of the South West Petanque top adult players mentoring their junior partners. Watching these partnerships in action—discussing tactics and strategizing the next move—was a highlight of the day. It was clear that the juniors benefited greatly from the experience, and the adults’ dedication to nurturing talent was commendable.

Teams traveled from across the South West, including Bristol, Somerset, Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, and Gloucestershire, to participate. The final match brought together last year’s champions, Player A and Player B, against Player A’s parent, Player C, and their partner, Player D. In a gripping and tightly contested game, it was Player C and Player D who emerged victorious, taking the title with a 13-9 win.

The event was made even more enjoyable thanks to the excellent facilities at Weston-Super-Mare Petanque Club and the warm hospitality of their members. Special thanks also go to the Umpire although their services were rarely required due to the smooth conduct of the games.

Looking ahead, junior teams will be in action again at Weston-Super-Mare on 5th May 2024 and 15th June 2024.
